Question: “I am a 55-year-old female. I have lost about 30 pounds in the last half year and have also started to lose some hair on my scalp over the last three months. I feel like my hair is half as thick. I have started taking sea kelp with no help for 2 months. I have had all the normal medical tests done to make sure there isn’t any health issue here, but nothing abnormal has been discovered…do you have any advice for me?”
Answer: “Weight loss can cause hair loss, though slow and steady weight loss is not known to cause the hair loss you have described. It could be an allergy to something in the shampoo or conditioner you use, or, if you colour your hair, a reaction to the chemicals that are in colouring products. Its difficult to say for sure… I would say, though, that Sea kelp has little value to you for regrowing your hair.
