While hair loss becomes an issue for most people at some point in their lives, not everyone’s hair loss pattern is the same. In order to receive the effective treatment for your baldness or hair loss, it is essential to get the type of baldness analyzed. For men, the most common type of baldness is the male pattern baldness, also known as androgenetic alopecia. While this is usually inherited, the male hormone DHT is known to play a role in this type of hair loss.

Statistically, almost 50% of men experience hair loss by the time they reach their 50s. The most common hair loss pattern is an M-Shaped balding pattern visible in the forehead area. Prior to this shape formation, people notice the thinning of their hair around the forehead. The thinning of hair and hair loss progresses eventually and hair is left around the head in a ring shape.

Male pattern baldness can be classified into several classes or types:

Types-99x300

The first type is a normal scalp with normal hair growth, with no visible hair loss.

The second type is where a receding hairline can be observed in the individual with a M-shaped hair loss pattern on the forehead.

The third type is a more prominent decline in hairline with visible hair loss above the temples as well as in the forehead. In addition, hair loss is also starting to show up in the crown.

The fourth type of baldness is where hair loss on the crown becomes noticeable and hair loss in the forehead and surrounding areas are clearly visible.

In the fifth type, one can notice the maximum hair loss at the vertex and crown areas. This is ideally a type wherein the hair loss becomes significantly visible and the individual reaches out for hair loss solutions such as hair transplants.

Sixth type clearly reveals hair loss pattern that can be categorized as major hair loss, but transplanting can definitely be an option. Patients with this type of hair loss can expect good results from the transplant.

The seventh type is wherein the individual’s hair loss appears very significant. Baldness is prominent in most areas of the head. Even if the candidate qualifies for transplants, the results may not be very promising.
